Filing two or three USCIS forms together — what changes?
Two things change. First, the price: an I‑765 filed together with — or while you already have pending — an I‑485 filed on or after 1 April 2024 costs $260 instead of the $520 standalone fee. Second, and more dangerous, every form in the package now has to agree with every other one. A date of birth, a name spelling or an A-Number that differs between two forms in the same envelope is an inconsistency in a single file, and that is what triggers a Request for Evidence.

The consistency requirement is the real risk
Filing separately, each form is read on its own. Filing together, they are read against each other — and against the same body of supporting evidence. Anything that differs between them has to be explained.
- Names: spelled identically on every form, including middle names and hyphens, with every other spelling declared in the other-names section.
- Dates of birth and entry: identical across forms and matching the passport, I‑94 and birth certificate behind them.
- A-Number: identical everywhere it appears, on every form.
- Addresses: the mailing address on each form should be the one you can actually receive mail at for the whole processing period.
- Editions: each form must be the current edition of that form — they change on independent schedules, so one being current says nothing about the others.
Where to file changes too. The correct filing address depends on which forms you are filing, your category and your state, and USCIS moves lockboxes regularly. FormGuard does not maintain a routing table and will not guess an address — check the direct filing address page for your specific form on uscis.gov as you prepare the envelope.
Current editions for the forms most often filed together
| Form | What it is | Current edition | Signature blocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| I-485 | Green card (adjust status) | 09/18/26 | 4 |
| I-130 | Petition for a relative | 04/01/24 | 5 |
| I-765 | Work permit (EAD) | 08/21/25 | 4 |
| I-131 | Travel document / advance parole | 01/20/25 | 4 |
Between them that is 17 separate signature blocks in one envelope, each of which has to be signed by the right person in ink. Missing one is the most expensive omission in the package.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the I-765 when filed with an I-485?
It is $260 when filed together with, or while you already have pending, an I-485 that was filed on or after 1 April 2024 — against $520 for a standalone application. Confirm your own amount with the official USCIS fee calculator before paying.
Can I file I-485, I-765 and I-131 in the same envelope?
These forms are commonly filed concurrently, and doing so is what makes the reduced I-765 fee available. Whether your particular combination is appropriate depends on your category and eligibility, which is a question for the form instructions or an immigration attorney rather than a form checker.
What is the most common mistake in a concurrent filing?
Inconsistency between the forms — a name, date of birth or A-Number that differs from one form to the next. Each form can be individually correct and the package still reads as contradictory, which is why the FormGuard report compares values across the whole filing rather than field by field.
Do all the forms need to be the current edition?
Yes, and each one separately. Editions change on independent schedules, so downloading a fresh I-485 tells you nothing about whether your I-765 is current. Check the edition date printed at the bottom of every page of every form.
